Mrs Smith* is 93 and lives in Gloucestershire. She has used our live-in care service since it’s launch. She contacted the company when her health deteriorated and her twice daily care visits were not sufficient to meet her needs to live unaided at home. Mrs Smith’s live-in care is provided by Shiela.

“I didn’t want to leave my home so choosing a live-in care worker was the right choice for me. My live-in carer is so many things to me; she’s a carer when I need help, a companion when I need company and a discreet friend that doesn’t question when I want privacy.

Having 24 hour care has improved my relationship with my family. My daughter works full time and lives far away so she only gets to see her once a fortnight. She would visit and by the time she had done a few chores, cooked me a meal and checked my medication, it was time for her to go. Now that my live-in care worker does all that for me, I can spend quality time with my daughter and she has the peace of mind that my needs are taken care of when she’s not here.”

Sheila has provided Mrs Smith’s live-in care for several months.

“I thoroughly enjoy caring for Mrs Smith. My role is very fulfilling and rewarding. Mrs Smith likes her own space and it’s important to respect that. Every afternoon I have a couple of hours off, sometimes I go for a walk into the village or I spend the time relaxing in my own room

Every day Mr Smith tells me what she would like me to cook for her and we sometimes pick out a recipe by her favourite chef, Rosemary Shrager. She often likes to entertain her friends and we both really enjoy sitting together to plan the menu.

Mrs Smith always likes to look her best and I enjoy painting her nails for her. I think we get on very well – we have a very similar sense of humour and a mutual respect for each other.”
